    DJ DePree was one of a kind. He forged a unique company out of traditional small town Christian values and big city modern design. 

    DJ’s father-in-law is partly responsible. Born Herman Mulder in the Netherlands in , his parents, Harm and Stientje Smit Mulder, moved the family to the United States in and made their home in Grand Rapids. In , Herman became a U.S. citizen and changed his last name to Miller.

    That year, he also married Nellie Breen. Together, they had six children, among them Nellie, born in , and Howard, born in In Grand Rapids, Herman Miller took a job with the Royal Manufacturing Company and, by , had worked his way up to foreman; later he was promoted to superintendent.

    D.J. De Pree founds the Herman Miller Clock Company. The clock company makes traditionally designed clocks and later adds Gilbert Rohde designs.

    Miller was born on November 10, , in New York City, to Morris Miller (–) and Esther Booke (–). He was of Polish Jewish descent.[1] Miller pursued both undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Southern California, where he received his B.A. in and M.F.A. in [citation needed]

    The television show Kung Fu (–) was developed by Miller.[2][3] He was a co-producer for the series and wrote the first three episodes ("King of the Mountain," "Dark Angel," and "Blood Brother").
