Top cop’s widow says police tried to cloud facts
PUNE: In a new twist into the Mumbai terror attacks issue, Vinita Kamte, widow of slain Additional Commissioner of Police, Ashok Kamte, alleged that the police have tried to cloud facts and take away from her husband’s heroism.
The Pune-based Vinita, in an interview with “Pune Mirror” published yesterday, said that she conducted her own probe to prove that her husband fired and injured the lone surviving terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Qasab and that the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare and senior police Inspector Vijay Salaskar, who were also killed along with her husband, did not act on an impulse during the November terror attack.

Mumbai: The widow of Additional Police Commissioner Ashok Kamte, who died fighting terrorists on November 26, 2008, on Tuesday said there were still many unanswered questions about the circumstances in which her husband was killed.
"The information about the death of my husband and two other police officers, Hemant Karkare and Vijay Salaskar, was known immediately but the circumstances which led to their death were not known for many months," said Kamte's wife Vinita.
"There were no clear answers forthcoming for simple and basic questions. In fact, today also we have received no clear answers and many questions are yet to be answered," said Vinita after releasing her book To The Last Bullet.
