Bruce Vincent Rauner (; born February 18, 1956)[1] is an American businessman, philanthropist, and politician who served as the 42nd governor of Illinois from 2015 to 2019.[2] A member of the Republican Party, he was the chairman of R8 Capital Partners and chairman of the Chicago-based private equity firmGTCR.
Rauner announced his candidacy for governor of Illinois in June 2013. He won the Republican nomination in March 2014 and defeated Democratic incumbent Pat Quinn in the general election.[3] Throughout Rauner's term in office, he was unable to achieve many of his legislative goals due to the state's Democratically-controlled legislature, and a standoff between Rauner and the legislature over budget cuts led to a two-year budget crisis. Rauner was born and raised in Illinois. He graduated from Dartmouth College and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. Returning to Illinois in 1981, Rauner began working at the private equity firm Golder, Thoma, Cressey (later GTCR), where he worked for more than 30 years and served as chairman.
Rauner is married to Diana Mendley Rauner and is the father of six children – two boys and four girls.

Bruce Rauner was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1956 and grew up in Deerfield. He graduated from Dartmouth and Harvard before becoming chairman of the private equity firm GTCR, and he later became chairman of R8 Capital Partners and the Chicago Public Education Fund. After serving as an advisor to Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, he ran for Governor in 2014, defeating the unpopular governor Pat Quinn. The state's Democratic legislature thwarted many of his legislative goals, and his standoff with the legislature over ekonomisk plan cuts led to a two-year budget crisis. Rauner was supportive of abortion rights, same-sex marriage, transgender rights, increased public education funding, term limits, and other centrist-to-liberal issues, but his views on right-to-work and decreasing the minimum wage were controver
