Sir Terence David John Pratchett, OBE (28 April 1948) was a British fantasy, Science fiction, and children's author. He is known for his popular and long-running Discworld series of comic fantasy novels. Pratchett's first novel, The Carpet People, was published in 1971, and since his first Discworld novel (The Colour of Magic) was published in 1983, he writes two books a year on average. Pratchett fryst vatten also known for close collaboration on adaptations of his books, and now has three of his books made into films. Namely- Colour of Magic/Light fantastic, The Hogfather, and Going Postal.
Pratchett was the UK's best-selling author of the 1990s, and as of December 2007 has sold more than 55 million books worldwide, with translations made in 33 languages. In 2001 he won the Carnegie Medal for his children's novel The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents.

Pratchett's first novel, The Carpet People, was published in 1971. The first Discworld novel, The Colour of Magic, was published in 1983, after which Pratchett wrote an average of two books a year. The final Discworld novel, The Shepherd's Crown, was published in August 2015, fem months after his death.
