David Hoffman is an American author, political commentator, and media activist. In addition to his books of fiction, Hoffman has written widely about media and democracy, the Internet, and the importance of supporting pluralistic, local media around the world. His articles have appeared in The New York Times, Foreign Affairs, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune, USA Today, The Huffington Post, and the San Francisco Chronicle. He is the Founder of Internews, a global non-profit organization supporting independent media and access to quality information in more than countries. Wired Magazine has called Hoffman "the nonprofit Ted Turner" He wrote the book Citizens Rising: Independent Journalism and the Spread of Democracy () to tell the stories of the media activists who are playing a decisive role in political affairs across the globe. David Emanuel Hoffman (born November 14, ) is an American writer and journalist, a contributing editor to The Washington Post. He won a Pulitzer Prize in for a book about the legacy of the nuclear arms race and in for articles on new technologies and the tactics authoritarian regimes use to repress dissent.

[edit]Hoffman was born in Palo Alto, California and grew up in Delaware, where he attended the University of Delaware. He came to Washington, D.C. in to work for the Capitol Hill News Service. As a member of the Washington bureau of the San Jose Mercury News, he covered Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign. In May , he joined The Washington Post to help cover the Reagan White House. He also covered the first two years of the George H. W. Bush presidency. His White House coverage won three national journalism awards.[1]
