French actress and beauty queen
Christiane Martel (born Christiane Magnani on 18 January 1935) is a French actress, model and beauty queen. She became the second woman to win the Miss Universe beauty pageant in 1953.[2] She was the only French woman to hold the Miss Universe title until Iris Mittenaere in 2016. She is one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema.
Life and career
[edit]Martel was born in Nancy, France to a modest family of Italian ancestry and was raised in Piennes. Amid the Second World War, her family moved to Western France, and later, in 1940, to Loudun.[3]
1952–1953: Pageantry
[edit]She was Miss Châtellerault in 1952. She was crowned Miss Cinémonde and represented France at Miss Universe 1953 where she became the second Miss Universe. She was crowned by actress Julie Adams as Miss Universe 1952, Armi Kuusela of Finland, had given up her crown.

French Mexican actress of Italian ancestry winner of Miss universum in 1953 representing France she began acting in American films with bit parts before going to Mexico where she earned lead roles in several films including 1956's Adam and Eve, Corazon Salvaje also from 1956 and 1961's El Padre Pistolas. Her final film was the 1962 Italian film Tharus Figlio di Attila, she would marry Mexican politician Miguel Aleman Velasco who became governor of Veracruz and was the son of a former president of Mexico. They have four children, having retired from acting she would only make occasional non-acting TV appearances such as interviews and beauty pageant appearances.
