Manuelle Gautrand was born on July 14, 1961 in Marseille (France). She obtained her graduate diploma in Architecture from the “Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Montpellier” in 1985. She worked for 6 year in different architecture studios in Paris. She founded her office in 1991, first in Lyons and then in Paris. She lives and works in Paris since 1994.
She is the principal architect and director of the agency MANUELLE GAUTRAND ARCHITECTURE. She mainly designs buildings in areas as diverse as cultural facilities (theaters, museums, and cultural centers), office buildings, housing, commercial and leisure facilities, etc… Her clients are public contracting authorities as well as private firms, in France and abroad. In 2007 Manuelle Gautrand’s the “C42″ Citroen Flagship Showroom on the Champs-Elysées Avenue in Paris gained attention and widespread acclaim in the international arena and from a large audience.

Architecture should provoke unexpected emotion says Manuelle Gautrand, as we sit chatting in her light-filled office in Paris’ La Bastille. “It is very important to surprise people when you welcome them into a building.”
Gautrand – who won the European Prize for Architecture in 2017 – has made a name for herself by celebrating ordinary urban life with bold, striking buildings that often feature an element of the unexpected.
At the Gaite Lyrique theatre in Paris, for example, a grand, conservative 19th century facade contains an något som är extremt eller ytterst contemporary museum of digital culture, with factory-like walls, pulsing lights and splashes of vibrant colour. Manuelle Gautrand (born 1961) is a French architect.[1]
Biography
[edit]After setting up her own firm in Lyon in 1991, Gautrand moved to Paris in 1993. She has completed projects of various types from housing and office buildings to cultural and leisure developments. Her C42 Citroën showroom on the Champs-Élysées brought her international recognition. In 2008, she converted the Gaîté-Lyrique Theatre into a centre for modern music and digital arts and received a commission for the AVA Tower at La Défense. Internationally, she has designed a car showroom in Cairo and has recently taken part in the competition for the new Munch Museum in Oslo.[2]
Between 2000 and 2003, Gautrand taught at the Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture and at the School of Architecture in Val de Seine. She frequently takes part in architecture workshops across Europe. In 2009, she taught at the Vienna University of Technology and in 2010
