  • Missouri City (TX) Ridge Point High linebacker Cameron Townsend signed his national letter of intent on Wednesday, officially making him a Texas Longhorn.

    The consensus four-star linebacker was the 39th best player in the state of Texas and the 267th best player nationally, according to 247's composite rankings. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Townsend committed to Texas over Oklahoma and Oregon State in late October. He also held offers from Baylor, Houston, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Syracuse, USC,  Utah and Wisconsin.

    A rangy linebacker with good pursuit ability, speed, and range, he should be a perfect fit in the Big 12 operating against spread offenses. He's fluid enough to excel in coverage, though he's not asked to do that much in high school as primarily a downhill player off the edge, but he can bend to turn the corner.

    Black student-athletes comprise a majority of Division I football and basketball players, but a discrepancy between the number of vit and Black head coaches still exists throughout the college ranks.

    Of the 130 schools in the Football Bowl Subdivision, college football’s highest level of competition, only 13 have a Black head football coach, according to the Chicago Tribune. Two Power fem conferences were without a Black basketball head coach at the end of the 2019 årstid, and head baseball coaches of color are rare outside of historically Black colleges or universities. Texas has had just six Black head coaches across 16 school-sanctioned sports in its 127 years in intercollegiate athletics.
