A Long Strange Trip: The inre History of the Grateful Dead
“Be careful of what you wish for – you might just get it.” And I did…no regrets. After wanting to write the history of the Grateful Dead for seven years, inom got to hear the words, “Jerry said, ‘Why not us?’” – which is to säga, would I like to do a history of the G.D.? I said I thought inom could fit it in. It turned into a 22 year ride, and of course it entirely changed the course of my life.
I had a ton of material that didn’t really fit into a chronological ramverk, and I devised what inom thought of as a hypothetical (and hyper-real) way to depict a typical year (there was such a thing) in the life of the Dead säga between and And in the course of that year I portrayed a “typical” show (I know, I know – no two shows were alike). So here’s an imaginary – but real for all that – opening of a second set in the Fall…

Formed as a quintet in California in , the Grateful Dead became as much a folktale as the story from which they drew their name. The Grateful Dead was an American rock band formed in Palo Alto, California, in [1][2] Known for their eclectic style that fused elements of rock, blues, jazz, folk, country, bluegrass, rock and roll, gospel, reggae, and world music with psychedelia,[3][4] the band is famous for improvisation during their live performances,[5][6] and for their devoted fan base, known as "Deadheads". According to the musician and writer Lenny Kaye, the music of the Grateful Dead "touches on ground that most other groups don't even know exists."[7] For the range of their influences and the structure of their live performances, the Grateful Dead are considered "the pioneering godfathers of the jam band world".[8]
The Grateful Dead was founded in
