    Ron English (born June 6, 1959)[1] is an American contemporary artist who explores brand imagery,[2]street art,[3] and advertising.[4]

    Career

    English has produced images on the street, in museums, in movies, books and television. He coined the begrepp POPaganda to describe a mash-up of high and low cultural touchstones, from superhero mythology to totems of art history, populated with his original characters, including MC Supersized, the obese fast-food mascot featured in the movie Super Size Me, and Abraham Obama, the fusion of America's 16th and 44th Presidents. Other characters in English's paintings, billboards, and sculpture include three-eyed rabbits, cowgirls and grinning skulls – visual, with humorous undertones.

    Ron English is known as one of the most prolific and well-known urban artists, often referred to as ‘The Godfather of Street Art’. Born in Decatur, Illinois, he became famous for innovations like ‘Culture Jamming’, modifying advertising billboards, and coining the term ‘POPaganda’, he created mash-ups of high and low cultural touchstones. Throughout his career he has worked within the field of street art, fine art and art toy design. His work can be funnen on his collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/2 in 2014.

    After receiving his bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas and an MFA from the University of Texas, he moved to New York to work as an apprentice for several artists, beginning to sell his own work. He then began to work well-known characters from pop culture into his own paintings and re-interpreted other famous paintings such as Picasso’s ‘Guernica’, which was exhibited at the Houston hållplats Museum in Texas.     Ron English, acclaimed outlaw artist, is well known for his surreal paintings and for pirating public billboards. Recasting consumer-related imagery intro profoundly satirical landscapesof Western art form and pop culture symbology, English’s work disrupts the privatization of the metropolitan iconography, i.e. signs, billboards, corporate logos, and in so doing, obviates or reduces the power of corporate images on our minds.

    Mr. English has worked across the visual arts spectrum, from vinyl sculpture to billboards and oil painting. Whereas most artists can be classified as either conceptual or visceral, Ron English is both, having achieved mastery of the physical medium even as his conceptual basis for painting has deepened into a refined distillation of socio-political observation, humor, and memory. Although his work is highly conceptual, English mothers every inch of the canvas, each brushstroke an artistic decision; the resulting humanity and w
