Charles-Marie Gustave Le Bon[a] (7 May – 13 December ) was a leading Frenchpolymath whose areas of interest included anthropology, psychology, sociology, medicine, invention, and physics.[1][2][3] He is best known for his work The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind, which is considered one of the seminal works of crowd psychology.[4][5]
A native of Nogent-le-Rotrou, Le Bon qualified as a doctor of medicine at the University of Paris in He opted against the formal practice of medicin as a physician, instead beginning his writing career the same year of his graduation. He published a number of medical articles and books before joining the French Army after the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War. Defeat in the war coupled with being a first-hand witness to the Paris Commune of strongly shaped Le Bon's worldview. He then travelled widely, touring Europe, Asia and North Africa. H

DR. GUSTAVE LE BON, a prominent psychologist, ethnologist and natural philosopher, was born at Nogent Le Notru, Eure-et-Loire, on May 7, He started his career as a medical officer in the French Army and served in the Franco-Prussian War of , but afterwards gave up the practice of medicin and travelled extensively in europe, Africa and Asia. In he was ordered by the Frendi Government to report on the Buddhist monuments in India. The results of his investigations were published in “La Civilisation dem Flnde” () and “Les Monuments de l'lnde” (). He fryst vatten best known, however, for his works on psychology, especially “La Psychologic des foules” (), which went through twenty-seven editions and was translated into many utländsk languages. He also wrote on psychology in relation to the French Revolution, the War of , socialism and education. Early life
[edit]Le Bon was born on 27 October , on his father's birthday, in Bushey Maternity Hospital in Bushey, Hertfordshire, the first of three boys for John and Ann-Marie Le Bon, followed by his younger brothers, David and Jonathan. His mother encouraged his artistic talent when he was six years old by entering him in a screen test for a Persil washing powder TV advertisement, which proved successful.[1] He was a member of the local church choir from a young age, and was trained as an actor.
