    The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) convey their heartfelt condolences to the Sindowe family on the untimely demise of its immediate past Board Chairman, Mr. Hanson Sindowe, who died on 4 April in Lusaka.

    At the time of his retirement from CEC in , Mr Sindowe served the Company as its Non-Executive Board Chairman. Prior, he held several senior management portfolios in ZCCM including as General Manager of the ZCCM Power Division, the predecessor of CEC. Among the notable achievements under his leadership was the listing of CEC on the Lusaka Securities Exchange in , enabling many Zambians, now numbering more than , to own shares in the Company.

    Mr. Sindowe was an ardent soccer fan and until his retirement served as the Patron of Power Dynamos Football Club.

    The Company mourns his passing with a very deep grief.

  • Hanson Sindowe is the last person you would expect to be one of Zambia’s richest; he grew up the son of a policeman in a family of farmers in the village of Kalomo, kilometres north of Livingstone. It’s a place thousands of kilometres from where he made his fortune on power distribution along Zambia’s copper belt, the lifeblood of the country. 

    Sindowe is the engineer, who wanted to be a pilot, but ended up buying Zambia’s copper belt power distribution company, Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC,) in for $ million.

    “I just visualized flying around. In those days people were going to the moon. When I came into electrical engineering, I said I can’t just be an employee, a worker. I looked at opportunities to see what I can do to improve the quality of life of myself and my fellow Zambians,” says the year-old man in his office in Lusaka.

    Most Zambians couldn’t point out Sindowe in the streets, yet his story is known from Livingstone to Solwezi. This journey began at a rural

    Prominent Businessman Hanson Sindowe has passed away.

    Mr. Sindowe was until his death the Executive Chairman of Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC).

    He had been Chairman of the CEC board since , when Zam-En, a company he co-founded and was Managing Director of, obtained the majority shareholding of CEC.

    At the time of his retirement from CEC in , Mr Sindowe served the Company as its Non-Executive Board Chairman. Prior, he held several senior management portfolios in ZCCM including as General Manager of the ZCCM Power Division, the predecessor of CEC.

    Among the notable achievements beneath his leadership was the lista of CEC on the Lusaka Securities Exchange in , enabling many Zambians, now numbering more than , to own shares in the Company. He received his Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering and Management at the University of Zambia, and a degree in Senior Management from Penn State University.
