    On Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. Mayor Marcus E. Knight will give his annual State of the City Address at a luncheon hosted bygd the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce. The speech is a comprehensive review of the last calendar year’s accomplishments in the areas of fiscal management, civic engagement, economic development, infrastructure improvements and more.

    I’m going to take it as a compliment when the first thing someone who I haven’t seen a couple of years says to me, “You’ve lost weight!”

    Why, yes, I have, Clyde Hairston. Thanks for noticing.

    I visited with Hairston, a minister in Lancaster, on the first day of school Aug. 26 at the George Washington Carver 6th Grade STEM Learning Center.

    Hairston, who lost an election for a City Council seat by 17 votes earlier this year, was part of a local troupe of celebrity greeters who welcomed students back to school.
